Ashlaren News

2013 and Beyond....

2013 was another big year for Ashlaren and again we won Overall Weimaraner of the Year with our Ashlaren bred lines (NSW Weimaraner Club Point Score - ie nominated shows throughout the year attended by many Weimaraner exhibitors hence the competition amongst quality dogs is always excellent). Warm congratulations to all the winners in 2013! The Overall winner for 2013 was the bitch - AUST CH ASHLAREN HIGH CALIBRE (pictured her when only a Junior) - always beautifully handled by her owner, Tash Turner and co owned by her husband Brad, who will become a father for the first time in April this year. CONGRATULATIONS on your many big wins in strong competition Tash and also on the baby news with Baby Turner well on the way and who is sure to be seen ringside in the not too distant future, learning the handling techniques from mum Tash! Ashlaren Weimaraners also won BEST JUNIOR OF THE YEAR with ASHLAREN IVA THING FOR IVY (handled by Rachel Stock of Ashlaren). Ivy also won 3rd place Bitch of the Year and overall 4th place Weimaraner of the Year. Ch ASHLAREN ZALETA, co owned with Wayne Sewell, was a close 4th Place Bitch of the Year. Two of the most interesting judging experiences for Lainie in 2013 was an assignment in Sri Lanka and another in Beijing, China. This year promises to be just as hectic with several more overseas judging appointments scheduled throughout the year, in particular a return to beautiful South Africa to judge there again and also the honour of judging one of the biggest dog shows in Japan in the latter part of 2014. This year promises to be one big year with our move to greener pastures (110 picturesque acres to be exact!) at historic Cobbitty, near Camden. We have already set up the beginnings of a beef cattle stud there, due to expand soon with more cows and calves arriving. Our relatively rare beef cattle breed is registered as Square Meaters, are grey in colour - of course - and they are derived from Murray Grey Cattle. We are very excited about our venture into beef farming (but I can't really see our Weimaraners becoming cattle dogs and rounding up the cattle!) although I have been back in the saddle again after many years on one of our five beautiful horses who love their new home!

Our recent litters....

1-Kira pups at 4 and half weeks.jpg

Our babies from beautiful Kira (Aust Ch Carnmellis Ramira Ashlaren IMP NZ) are 4 and half weeks old in this photo taken with the Jeacle family from Sydney who can't wait to bring Hunter, their baby boy, home. All 6 babies are absolutely thriving and showing great potential.

Meanwhile Bella had 9 Christmas babies in Wollongong....

1-Bella x Arnie babies Christmas 2013.jpg

. A big Thank You to our good friends, Hank and Eva of Wollongong, for whelping Bella's 7 girls and 2 boys on Christmas Eve, 2013. They enjoyed this wonderful experience for the second time in about 20 years and are doing an excellent job rearing this very large litter. The sire of this litter is Arnie, (Ashlaren Mark's Arnage) who recently sired another large litter of 12 babies in Victoria for Silversheen Weimaraners. Bella's dam is our Multi Best in show winner, Aust/NZ Ch Ashlaren Sophie Sapphire who has proven to be one of our top brood bitches at Ashlaren. All our puppies from our recent litters are spoken for and we will not be having any litters until later this year but you are welcome to email us to be added to our waiting list.

Our Weimaraners Love to Play Ball!

Aust Champion Ashlaren High Calibre ('Callie') and 5 month old Ashlaren Hooked On Hudson ('Hudson') are owned, exhibited and much loved by Tasha Turner. Tash has had huge success with her two Weis and is a newcomer to showing dogs, but best of all, Tash enjoys the wonderful companionship, fun and love her two best friends give her and husband Brad. Congratulations on Callie and Hudson's recent group wins too! Hudson's sister (Ashlaren Mira Mira On The Wall) owned by another newcomer Henry Parsons, deserves congratulations too as Mira won BABY IN SHOW at her very first show! Watch out for two new Ashlaren babies from our recent litter to hit interstate show rings soon!

2-IMG_1303.JPG

Our young grand daughter Lauren Stock, only daughter of Rachel and Greg Stock, has begun her show handling career, just like her mother Rachel did when she was a child.

Lauren has always shown exceptional affinity with dogs from a very early age and an especially  keen interest in our Weimaraners. She has been eagerly anticipating the day when  she could officially show dogs once she turned 7 years old.

As from 7th August 2012, Lauren can now officially enter the show ring and handle our dogs. Every show we go to is a great learning experience for her, not only with our chosen breed, but grandmother and All Breeds judge Lainie loves to teach Lauren about all the different breeds of dogs and what they were originally bred for....Lauren is like the proverbial sponge in her thirst for knowledge in all things relating to canines!

Lauren is a NATURAL when it comes to dogs and will be a great asset to our show team in the future.

Congratulations to another Mark daughter on her new title

1-Connie (Ashlaren Mark Of A Connoisseur CCD) July 2010.jpg

Ashlaren Mark Of A Connoisseur ('Connie') is another home bred success sired  by Multi International Ch Davora Bremar Mark of Ashlaren (IMP CANADA). Connie has just acheived her first title which is Community Companion Dog (CCD), the first step in obedience titles. Her proud owners - Jacques and Alison Menil of Newcastle NSW - are keen to progress to her next Obedience title and with the high scores Connie attained in her first title, there should be no problem in achieving more titles in the future.

CONGRATULATIONS Connie, Jacques and Alison on this new achievement!

Meanwhile Jacques is training 'Pru' -  (Ashlaren Just Pretty Pru) -  for her field work competition and will soon be entering Pru into Retrieving Trials. (see photo below)

Connie is being trained for field work by Jacques Menil of Newcastle.

Jacques is more than impressed with Connie's progress and willingness to hunt. Meanwhile, she is starring in the trialling ring with a first place (97 pts out of a possible 100) against 18 competitors in  her CCD trial held in Newcastle recently.

Below Connie follows a command from Jacques!
